Frequently Asked Questions

Do you take insurance?

No, we do not take insurance.

No, we do not plan to take insurance.

Patients are responsible for the cost of services, and payment is due 24 hours prior to appointment. If you have out-of-network (OON) benefits, your insurance company may allow you to submit a superbill for reimbursement. A superbill can be provided, by request only, after services have been rendered. Submitting a superbill to your insurance provider does not guarantee reimbursement.

How much does an evaluation cost?

It depends!

15-minute consultations are free.

All new patients will start with a clinical interview. The cost of this is $250. Some evaluations can be completed in this one appointment. However, MOST evaluations are more extensive and will require additional appointments at an additional cost. Contact us for help determining what services are right for you and what you can expect to pay for your services.

When are you actually open?

We are open by appointment only and do not accept walk-ins.

Patient appointments are available on Thursdays and Fridays. Evening and weekend appointments may be available per patient request and doctor availability.

Our administrative office hours are Thursday - Friday 8:00 am - 8:00 pm.

Can I do my appointment virtually?

Maybe! We offer a variety of telehealth service options for your comfort and convenience. Some types of evaluations may require an in-person appointment; however, flexible scheduling options are also available. Contact us to discuss your options.

What’s your wait time for an appointment?

We offer a variety of scheduling options for your (and our) convenience. This reduces our wait time for most services. Most new patients can be seen for their initial appointment within 2-4 weeks. Testing appointments book out farther and may not be available for several weeks following your initial appointment.

For pre-surgical evaluations, most patients can be seen within two weeks and will have their documentation completed within 48 hours after your appointment.

I requested an appointment. Now what?

We will contact you via phone or email with additional information about cost, expectations, and scheduling. If you decide to schedule with us, you will be added to our patient portal and will receive new patient paperwork to complete. Payment is due in the portal 24 hours before your appointment. What can you diagnose?

Dr. Skaggs is qualified to diagnose a wide variety of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral conditions including neurodevelopmental disorders, mood and other psychiatric conditions, and a variety of neurodgenerative disorders. For additional information, please navigate to the Services page.

Can’t my doctor/prescriber/ therapist just diagnose me?

Sure! Absolutely. (Probably). However, there may be limits on what they can diagnose and what that diagnosis can do for you. For example, certain diagnoses require objective data which requires specialized training to obtain. Accommodations at school or work, disability services, and other social services may require specific testing or data points that cannot be obtained by certain providers.

I wanted an ADHD evaluation. Why didn’t you diagnose me with ADHD?

This is such an important question. While you may have had a specific reason you wanted to be evaluated, Dr. Skaggs isn’t testing for just one thing. She’s looking at patterns of abilities and behaviors that match diagnoses. Sometimes the outcome is what you expected, and sometimes it’s not. When you pay for an evaluation, you are paying for an expert opinion — not a diagnosis. If you think something was missed, have questions, or would like to talk more about your experience, give us a call (or email).

What’s the difference between Alzheimer’s and dementia?

Dementia is an umbrella term used to describe changes in cognitive and functional abilities that can be caused by many different things. Alzheimer’s is just one type of dementia! Alzheimer’s disease typically affects memory and language and continues to worsen over time. If you or a loved one are experiencing changes in thinking, go ahead and get it evaluated to help you plan ahead.

Do you prescribe medication?

Nope! Licensed psychologists cannot prescribe medication in Arkansas.

If medication is needed/wanted after your appointment, you can ask our Doc for a recommendation on prescribers. She’ll be happy to assist.
